After reading History (and "CUSU studies") at Newnham, I spent time as an unqualified teacher in a private school, which convinced me that I really like helping young people see the world in different ways, which also seems to help them achieve highly.
I then did a PGCE and have since taught in state secondary schools, also fulfilling the roles of head of Y7, KS3 History Co-ordinator, Head of History, Assistant Headteacher (Developing Students) and Director of Learning in three different roles - KS3, KS5 and QLTA.
I have also had a sabbatical working as the Education Officer for the Historical Association and I have worked closely with the Prince's Teaching Institute. I have been a mentor on the IoE History PGCE course, and acted as an interviewer for this course, too, and am currently responsible for all initial teacher education in my school in Camden. So, if you have questions about being a history teacher, teacher training, or working in the education charity sector, please do get in touch!
