Happy to provide advice to students and recent students interested in International Development, social and environmental impacts of business practices, and also how expertise from Engineering transitions into other work areas!
I have previously worked for Thames Water (2 years as civil engineer); Stanger (2 years as a consultant in a Carillion subsiduary advising Carillion on its environmental and social impacts, as well as providing consultancy to outside clients – e.g. BAA, DEFRA, English Nature).
Since 2001 have worked for Traidcraft (a fair trade organisation) in their policy unit. This work looks at the link between business and their impact on poverty in developing countries. I have worked on supply chains (purchasing practices, codes of conduct and audit approaches), company law, non-financial reporting, ethical investment, and competition policy (buyer power).
I did a Masters organised by Forum for the Future – that looked at Sustainable Development. This is open to people under 26 and i would highly recommend it because of its work based learning approach and focus on solutions =:)
