I became the Director of Market Oversight at the FCA in April 2017. As Director of Market Oversight, I am responsible for overseeing the conduct of participants in the primary and secondary markets through the listing, prospectus and market abuse regimes. The mission of my Division is to promote trusted, orderly and efficient primary and secondary markets in the UK which work in the interests of all participants and stakeholders.
I joined the Financial Conduct Authority as Head of the Wholesale Banking Supervision
Department in 2014. In that role, I was responsible for supervising the conduct of some 1,300 firms and groups with active wholesale banking operations in the UK.
Prior to my roles at the FCA, I joined Bank of America Merrill Lynch in June 2010 as a Managing Director and ran several debt capital markets businesses in Europe, the Middle East and Africa including the flow financing of banks, Covered Bond financing, short term financing and the development of Green Bonds.
Before I joined BAML, I was a Board Member and then the CEO of DEPFA ACS BANK, then the largest issuer of Irish Covered Bonds. I was also the Head of Capital Markets for the DEPFA BANK Group, responsible for its long term funding. Prior to joining DEPFA, I held various debt capital markets roles at JPMorgan focusing among other things on advising multilateral development banks and before that emerging market sovereigns on raising financing.
I have played an active role in diversity and inclusion in financial services throughout my career, acting as a co-chair of the BofAML LGBT network and now as the FCA’s Gender Champion. I was named one of Financial News’ 100 Most Influential Women in Europe’s Financial Markets in 2010, 2011 and 2012 and also named on the OUTstanding Top 50 list in 2013 and in its successor the Top 100 list in 2014.
I would be happy to help anyone wanting to consider a career in the financial services industry. As someone with a degree in Social and Political Sciences, I am also keen to support anyone thinking about the public and private sector applications of a degree in the social sciences more broadly.
