Annie Grant

I have spent my working life in a range of different roles within the higher education sector. I started as an archaeologist and held academic posts in universities in the UK and abroad, teaching, researching and publishing for over 20 years. While I retain lifelong interest and a small active involvement in archaeology, in the early 1990s I was offered the opportunity to change direction within HE and to take responsibility for the leadership and development of a broad student service function first at the University of Leicester, and, since 2004 at the University of East Anglia. I have a wide experience of the management of specialist but integrated services that cover student finance, disability, dyslexia, mental health, counselling, academic learning and research skills, international student matters, careers guidance and chaplaincy. I have a great interest in, and understanding of the challenges faced by undergraduate and postgraduate students and of the advice support and guidance that can be most effective in giving them the opportunity to achieve their academic potential and personal goals. I am committed to widening access to higher education and to ensuring that the HE environment is sensitive and responsive to the diversity of its student body. I have a particular interest in encouraging women to play the fullest possible role in all aspects of society at all levels, including the most senior. I welcome contact from all those who feel that I might be able to be helpful to them.
