Jane Morris

I fell in love with Newnham more than 50 years ago and still feel the same about College.  I’m now a semi-retired Psychiatrist, with experience in Child & Adolescent Psychiatry and Adult Psychotherapy, and special interests in Eating Disorders and Perinatal Mental Health.  I’ve spent all my working life in different parts of  Scotland, and now live mainly in Edinburgh.  I led the North of Scotland Managed Clinical Network for Eating Disorders and chaired the SIGN Guideline on Eating Disorders (2022).  As Chair of the Royal College of Psychiatrists in Scotland I try to influence all UK Governments to  prioritise Mental Health .

More recently I’ve been indulging my passion for improving University Student Mental Health, and thoroughly appreciate the support of everyone at Newnham who helped me complete my book on the topic for Cambridge University Press – it should be launched very soon.

I suffered from epilepsy for many years and now struggle with poor eyesight so I understand the demands on energy and motivation of imperfect health.  I was a ‘part time’ trainee in the NHS so I know how hard it has always been to juggle parenthood with vocation. As an Associate I loved offering work experience and discussion to Newnham students, and as a ‘Hon’ I still look forward to meeting, encouraging and getting to know some of you.
