Pat Phillips

I spent 30 years in the Civil Service and Diplomatic Service. Much of this was spent abroad including serving as HM Ambassador to Angola, and postings in Washington, The Netherlands and Jordan. This was interspersed with periods on policy work in London. Alongside this I did an MBA by distance learning at the Open University. After taking early retirement, I worked part-time for a while, delivering training courses on negotiation and policy skills, and doing various voluntary jobs. In 2018, I completed an MA in Military History by distance learning from the University of Birmingham. Then in January 2021 I started a whole new career. I began working as an Academic Mentor, part of the national Covid recovery effort, in a primary school in Pimlico, Westminster. In September, I shall start a full-time apprenticeship (possibly the oldest apprentice in history?) to train as a teacher in the same school.
