I have had a varied career in politics, the NHS and voluntary and private sectors.

Member of Parliament (1997-2010) and Cabinet Minister (Trade and Industry; Health; Women) in the Blair Governments.

Chair of NHS Norfolk & Waveney Integrated Care Board (and predecessors) since 2017; conducted independent review of integrated care systems 2023 , so closely in touch with health and social care provision.

I have also had extensive non-executive experience (including as senior independent director, BT, and non-executive director, Getlink Group) and am currently a senior adviser, FTI Consulting.
